BREAKFAST like a king, lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper. It's age-old advice, but it has suddenly become the buzz phrase of LA.

We're used to being told to eat breakfast if we want to lose weight. It boosts our metabolism and sets us up for the day ahead.

But the latest bestselling diet book in the US takes this one step further - eat your dinner for breakfast and your breakfast for dinner, if you really want to lose weight.

Angelina Jolie, who has often been asked how she maintains her super-svelte body, especially as she has a penchant for McDonald's burgers, has finally revealed her secret . . . breakfast and lots of it.

"I used to not eat breakfast, but have a cigarette and a coffee," she admits, but now she insists her whole family eat a substantial breakfast.

And for dinner? Angelina smiles as she declares that she enjoys "the greatest food in the world" for her evening meal - breakfast cereals.

Her favorite is a bowl of Cheerios, but any high fiber, sugar-free cereal will do.

Another A-lister who indulges herself with breakfast in the evening is Beyonce.

The Dreamgirls star loves her food and eats whatever she wants, though luckily for her, she can indulge herself with her favorite food in the evening - granola.

"My big fitness trick is cereal," grins the star, adding: "I love it, granola cereal in particular."

Dieting no longer means going without. if you can join these stars and eat your meals in reverse order. The Reverse Diet is the brainchild of weight loss specialist Tricia Cunningham and she teamed up with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik to produce the best-selling book that is setting the US alight.

Tricia, who battled with her weight for years, discovered the answer she'd been praying for when she dropped half her body weight, losing 162 pounds simply by reversing the order of her meals.

"I'd spent my life yo-yo dieting," says Tricia. "I've been eating in reverse now for years and I know I'll never be 300 pounds again."

She promises we can all benefit from this diet, which experts agree is all about re-tuning the body to burn more fat. The science behind this method of weight loss is simple: calories consumed in the evening don't necessarily equal those consumed in the morning.

The reason for this is that any food eaten in the morning, after a night's sleep, tends to be used for heat and immediate energy needs, so it isn't as likely to be stored as fat.

Food eaten in the evening, however, can accumulate fat because we don't burn it off as efficiently.

This diet may take a little forward planning, but if a little preparation gets us looking slender for summer then it is a small sacrifice.

There are three rules to the diet:

1)Start the day with a big breakfast.

2) Eat a smaller lunch.

3) Finish the day with a tiny dinner.

Tricia has some tips on forward planning to make things easy in the morning.

She says. "I prepare everything the Sunday before. It takes just two hours.

"Get some Tupperware containers and family packs of chicken.

"Grill them up and put them into the freezer. You can then simply defrost them throughout the week.

So no more counting calories, shunning crabs or feeling deprived - just reverse the order of your meals every day and watch those pounds drop away.

Peaches, pineapples, apples, grapes and plums

Eggs

Fat-free sour cream, salad dressing and skimmed milk

Salt

Sugar

Alcohol

Caffeine

Fizzy drinks


THE REVERSE DIET MEAL SUGGESTIONS

Breakfast

Meat loaf with a cup of rice and a cup of mixed vegetables. A glass of hot water with lemon and a piece of fruit.

Or a grilled chicken breast coated with Parmesan cheese, boiled potatoes and green beans. A glass of hot water with lemon and a piece of fruit.

Or an omelette's made with two eggs, served with baked beans. A fruit salad topped with fresh low-fat cream. Hot water with lemon.

Snack

A cup of cottage cheese and a piece of fruit.

Or two wholegrain crackers with hummus.
